Our week together...
We will be on the move day-tripping our way through Northern New Mexico visiting the historic sites we have long imagined. Beginning each day with a morning of knitting and ending with a lovely meal and relaxing by the fire.
Saturday, June 2, 2018
Our week begins with a Welcoming Reception at the The On The Paseo. A dinner featuring Northern New Mexican cuisine at a fine local restaurant will follow. After dinner we will reconvene for an opening presentation by our Guest Designer, Susan Mills.
Sunday, June 3, 2018
After breakfast we will have our first instructional knitting session with Susan followed by a short walk to Miriam’s Well, a local Santa Fe yarn shop. Afterwards everyone will have a few short hours to roam the shops of Santa Fe square on their own, have a bite to eat, or shop from the local artisans at the Governor’s Palace. We will meet again to collect our things and ride as a group to the Abiquiu Inn in Abiquiu, NM where we will be based for the next 5 nights. After settling in we will have dinner together at the Abiquiu Inn restaurant, the Abiquiu Cafe.
Monday, June 4 – Friday June 8, 2018
Beginning today and continuing each morning throughout the week we will have breakfast, a 3 hour knitting workshop session with Susan in the Gallery of the Abiquiu Inn followed by a light lunch and an afternoon outing.
Monday: Today’s outing will be a ride to Tierra Wools in Los Ojo, NM. This is a special place that has protected and maintained the weaving traditions of Northern New Mexico since the early 1980s. Many of the weavers of Tierra Wools are descendants of Spanish settlers in the Rio Grande Valley, with ancestors dating back as early as the 16th century. We will see weaving demonstrations and hopefully vats filled with the simmering natural ingredients for dying wools for knitting and weaving. Then home once again for another quiet evening by the fires.
Tuesday: After our newly established morning routine we will ride to Ojo Caliente for lunch at the Artesian Restaurant and an afternoon of massage, soaking in the natural spring-fed mineral pools. Not to be missed is a walk to the mesa above and through the ‘melted’ Posi Pueblo and the labyrinth along the River Chama. We will return for dinner at the Abiquiu Inn and enjoying the quiet courtyard and kiva fireplaces.
Wednesday: After our morning knitting session and a New Mexican brunch, we will travel to Taos where we will visit the Rancho de Taos made imminently more famous by Georgio O’Keefe, the Millicent Rogers Museum, and Weaving Southwest for demonstrations and discussions of the local fiber traditions and samples of their local yarns. This will be followed by dinner at the highly regarded local restaurant, Lambert's.
Thursday: A special treat is in store for us as we get a tour of Georgia O’Keefe’s Abiquiu home and studio. Following in the afternoon we will have a private landscape tour featuring Ms. O'Keefe's painting locations throughout Ghost Ranch.
Friday: After our morning knitting we will gather our things and slowly head south towards our last evening together in Santa Fe. We will travel through the mountains to visit an alpaca farm the Victory Ranch in Mora, NM. Finally arriving back at The Inn On The Paseo for the night and one last dinner together at another fine Santa Fe restaurant, yet to be selected.
